O2 promises iPhones for all UK customers by "end of summer"

Apple's exclusive iPhone provider in the UK, O2, sent apology text messages this morning to all of its customers who unsuccessfully attempted to pre-order a new iPhone 3G online on Monday, as the carrier ran out of stock and its servers melted down almost simultaneously. The text messages directed customers to a page with update information warning that the supply situation won't get any better for some time.

"Thank you for your interest in iPhone 3G," O2 said. "We are experiencing unprecedented demand for the device and whilst we are confident that all customers who want iPhone 3G will get one by the end of this summer, initial supply is limited and will be for some weeks. Here is what you need to know:"
