Apple to slow annual Mac OS X updates

During a keynote speech at this week's Software & Information Industry Association's Enterprise Software Summit in San Francisco, Apple's Chief Technology Officer, Avie Tevanian, promised a decline in the company's rigorous Mac OS X update schedule following the release of Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, due by year's end.

Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger will reportedly be the last OS refresh to adhere to the recent fast-paced deployment scheduled, which has delivered successive annual Mac OS X system updates for the last several years.

Looking forward, Tevanian admitted that the current annual release rate is not sustainable, but said the company would continue releasing updates at a "really fast" pace.

Apple will provide developers with the first public demonstration of Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference, which is set to take place during the week of June 28th, in San Francisco, California.
