In sync with the release of
iTunes 8, Apple on Tuesday also released matching updates to its companion software for Macs.
QuickTime 7.5.5 is available for Leopard (
64.7MB) and Tiger (
60.2MB) and improves compatibility in addition to fixing bugs with the media software.
Security is also a focus and sees 7.5.5 close holes that would allow malicious H.264, QTVR and PICT files to either crash QuickTime or run arbitrary code as a result of the fault; extra validation prevents these hostile videos from loading.
Front Row 2.1.6 for Mac OS X Leopard (
12.5MB) updates the media interface to support the new iTunes and QuickTime updates.
