Select the ideal wine with Vinobilia for iPhone

Posted Mon, Jan 12, 2009 10:00 AM by Sam Gwilym
Continuing the iPhone Blog's alcohol themed evening, those who prefer a bottle of wine to accompany their evening may enjoy Vinobilia ($2.99, App Store), a full guide to learning about Wines, vineyards and varietals (which are the different sorts of grapes used to make wines - see how much you can learn?)

The developers behind Vinobilia seem to recognise that sense of bewilderment some may experience when entering an off-licence, confronted by shelf after shelf of wine bottles. Which are good? Which are awful? Which suits your tastes?

The app allows you to make this easier by searching through a "complete" listing of wines from across the globe, and create and read notes from other Vinobilia users. In addition to this, the app also uses trademarked and curious "Vinogram™" graphics, a kind of complex taste graph, to let users know the particular flavours of any wines they might be buying.

In addition to this, Vinobilia contains references on all sorts of wine knowledge, from the previously mentioned varietals, to the nitty-gritty of regions, or the subtler facts of appellations.

It's been recently found that a substance in wine called reservatol has very beneficial effects on longevity - so this may be an app to consider for the aspiring immortal.
