MacBook Pros suffer 7,200rpm drive issue; Korea iPod nano recall

Owners of new MacBook Pros configured with faster, 7,200rpm hard drives are paradoxically facing slowdowns as the disks occasionally pause -- and often make unwanted noise in the process. Simultaneously, Apple is recalling the first-generation iPod nano in South Korea due to battery fires.

Intuit says new Quicken for Mac delayed to 2010

Looking to quash rumors that it will may never get around to releasing a once publicized overhaul to Quicken for the Mac, Intuit announced Thursday that the latest iteration of its financial management software will finally arrive in February of 2010.

Apple looks to do more with face detection, improved video chat

Additional filings pouring out of the United States Patent and Trademark Office this week reveal that Apple may be planning face-detection components for its Mac and iPhone operating systems, in addition to working on ways to netter the quality of video conferences conducted via iChat.

In an offbeat but somewhat fascinating article published by the Huffington Post this week, it's revealed that LSD inventor Albert Hofmann penned a letter to Steve Jobs shortly before his passing, in which he asked the Apple co-founder for help in transforming his problematic psychedelic into a "wonderchild."

Apple filings detail ID app, other potential iPhone enhancements

A half dozen new patent filings published this week from Apple detail various advancements that could find their way into future iPhones, such as a new "ID App" for identifying objects in a user's surroundings, an interface for managing outgoing voicemails, a method by which customers could receive new iPhones and iPod touches pre-populated with apps and media items they select, and more.
